New Greetings

A poem

Here’s to a new year filled
of uncertainty topped with
a glimmer of hope,
hoping that there will be
something new brought
to the table,
from a list of superficial
standards to the silly
stuff I know will be temporary.

As I continue to get older
all these resolutions start
becoming a blur,
focused on too many and
losing track,
ending up back to the
square I began with,
not being pleased with
the outcome brought upon me.

Looking back to reflect on
the twelve months,
each representing a chapter
filled with no empty spots,
remarkable moments jotted down
as these eyes laid to
rest for several to recoup,
being blessed to awaken
with another twenty-four hours
each day,
what a journey.

As I finish up the last notes
to close this book,
the optimism to look at
this next year in a different
light will be challenging,
a slate I’m ready to
press the ink pressure,
blood-soaked onto the
stationery.

Here’s to chapter one,
January 2022.
